Efo is much more than a school. Our competent and enthusiastic staff encourage students to try their wings, grow and learn in a safe environment with plenty of opportunities to meet people from all walks of life. We work in an atmosphere of inclusion and acceptance and view cultural diversity as something to be embraced and celebrated. During the schoolyear we organise field trips, outings, Sunday services and festivities to celebrate important days and holidays.

History

The school was established in 1926 and has since operated in several different locations. Today Efo runs two campuses – one in Hangö in Southern Finland and one in Vasa in Ostrobothnia. Our current location on the corner of Strandgatan and Hovrättsesplanaden has been home to many generations of students since the school moved here from Jeppo in 1942. In 2018 the school moved into a new building connecting the original red-tiled structure to the former dormitory that was built in 1998. The school is owned and run by a trust fund, Garantiföreningen, and we share the premises with SLEAF (Swedish Lutheran Evangelical Association in Finland) who we work closely with on many levels instilling our Christian values in everything we do.

Surroundings

We are lucky to be in one of the nicest locations in the city, close to the bay and with a stunning view taking in the harbour and seaside promenade which is a very popular spot for recreation with the people in Vasa. The train and bus station are within walking distance or, if you prefer, a six-minute drive by car. Along the promenade there are several restaurants and beaches. The swimming-pool and other sport facilities are also near the school.
